Blog 5 Project Reflection and Working EQ

Content:

So far, you have: completed your summer mentorship, started doing some research, maybe completed the interview and hopefully found a mentor.

Using what you have done so far, answer the following 5 questions (be specific and use examples).

The Pentagon:
(1) Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?

A positive thing that has happened as a result of what I have completed so far is that I have a new understanding and appreciation for the way waves are created. I now understand how important the geography beneath the surface of the ocean is to the shape and form of waves.

(2) EQ Content:  Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?

One of the pieces of research that I have been reading is the book "Surfing The Manuel: Advanced." This book has really helped me to understand the concept of the concave on a surfboard. I am now beginning to understand the functions of the double and single concave's on the bottom of surfboards.

(3) What has worked for you so far in the senior project?

So far for the Senior project sitting down and taking Cornell notes on research for my topic I feel has really worked for me. It really seems to be sticking in my head a bit better.

(4) What hasn't worked so far?

I dont feel like there hasn't been anything that hasn't worked so far. I just feel a little lost on the big scheme of things for the project but that will come in time. But also finding time for me and my shaper to meet especially the last couple of weeks has been hard since both of us have busy schedules.

(5) Finding Value:

  •  What is a potential question you would like to study this year?  (working EQ)
How does the contour of a surfboard as well as the fins effect fluid dynamics, and what combination of shapes work best for different wave types?

  •  What do you plan to do for mentorship?  If you haven't found a mentor yet, then discuss where you are currently looking and who you are talking to to find it.
For mentorship I plan to shape both my Dad's surfboard and my surfboard as well as analyze and test out other types of surfboards.
